Disinfection and preventing contamination lie at the heart of the battle against the coronavirus or any other future epidemic: besides vaccination, the world needs masks, protective gear and disinfectant liquids to slow down the spread of the virus, thus preventing healthcare systems from overload. The goal is simple: the virus has to be destroyed before it reaches our bodies; short of that, we need to arrest its proliferation, or, at least, reduce the probability of human-to-human transmission. Vaccines are gradually becoming available en masse, which combined with the natural immunity of already infected people, is a reason for optimism. For a long time to come, however, the memory of this pandemic and a fear of pathogens will remain with us. The existence of multi-resistant bacteria that is pathogens that are immune to different kinds of antibiotics and are proliferating in hospitals, of all places – has been a cause for worry for some time and is feeding this fear. I think it’s not too bold to assert that in the future, people travelling on airplanes will be more wary of becoming infected than of the actual flight itself. When in the near future, travelling and tourism hopefully come back to life, transparent and dependable infection prevention and control will amount to a considerable competitive advantage
